The Persistent Voice in My Head
Why are you so lazy and always making mistakes?
(Why do you hold yourself to an impossibly high standard?)
You're disgusting, pathetic, and don't deserve love.
(You're too hard on yourself, and people do love you.)
You should be doing more to make yourself useful.
(Your productivity doesn't measure your worth.)
Why are you always pushing people away?
(Why do you blame yourself for how you've been traumatized?)
The world would be a better place if you were gone.
(You'd never talk to anyone else this way. Why do it to yourself?)
You're a hypocrite who fails to embody Christ.
(The love of God can never be earned or lost.)
You're a terrible, woefully inadequate minister.
(God called you and tells you to rely on him.)
You're wrong about your faith and going to Hell
If God even exists at all beyond your imagination.
(God loves the doubters, the stumblers, and the broken; you don't need to hide from The Lord.)
You reject yourself so no one else can do it first.
God loves you fully even at your worst.
Sometimes you stumble, sometimes you fall,
But you remain beloved by the Lord of all.
It's okay to have questions, doubts, and fears
Don't beat yourself up when it's too hard to hear
The voice of the one who called you by name
A perfect father who loves you the same
No matter if you ever have success
Because your view is limited, he knows the rest.
Trust in the Lord of all the earth;
He sees your heart and knows your worth.
